Tug Valley seems to have Logan’s number.

At least lately.

The Class A No. 1-ranked Tug Valley High School boys’ basketball team made it a season sweep and four in a row over the Logan Wildcats with Saturday’s 57-44 victory at the TVHS gym in Naugatuck.

Class AAA Logan dropped to 7-13 on the season with the loss while the Panthers, last year’s Class AA state champion, improved to 18-3.

Tug Valley had beaten Logan earlier in the season at Willie Akers Arena by a 53-41 score. The Panthers also won both meetings between the two teams last season.

The Panthers, which trailed Logan 24-22 at halftime, outscored the Cats 35-20 in the second half. Tug Valley led 32-29 after three, then outpointed Logan 25-15 in the fourth period.

Zak Miller, Chase Preston and A.J. Reynolds paced the Wildcats with 12 points each. T.J. Tomblin had three points, while C.J. Williams and Josh Rein had two each and Z. Minnick had one point.

Mikey Newsome led the Panthers with a game-high 20 points. Austin Brewer also reached double digits with 12 points on the night.

Logan was just 15-for-42 shooting from the floor for 36 percent and only 5-for-12 from the free throw line for 42 perecent.

Tug Valley shot better as the Panthers made 23-of-51 shots for 45 percent and 9-of-15 from the charity stripe for 60 percent.

The Wildcats are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night at George Washington. Logan then has Senior Night on Thursday night as Capital comes to town for the regular season finale. Both games have 7:30 p.m. tipoff times.

Tug Valley closes it out on Tuesday night at Class AAA Huntington in a 7:30 p.m. contest.

Both teams then take part in next week’s sectional tournament.

Logan is scheduled to play its sectional tournament again at Cabell Midland High School. The Cats are to battle Lincoln County, Huntington, Spring Valley and Cabell Midland. Seedings were scheduled to be announced sometime today.

Tug Valley, which dropped down to Class A this season, is in the same Class A sectional with Man. Van, Sherman, Greater Beckley Christian and Montcalm are also in the same section.
