Wyoming East moves on to play Tug Valley in semis

CHARLESTON (AP) — Chase Morgan led five Wyoming East players in double figures with 17 points and the Warriors breezed to a 77-55 win over Frankfort in the Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday night.

Eighth-seeded Frankfort (13-11) jumped ahead 9-4 in the game’s first 3 minutes before top-seeded Wyoming East took over.

A 13-3 run put the Warriors ahead 40-20 just before halftime and Wyoming East led by as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter.

Alex Webb added 13 points for Wyoming East. Evan Muscari, Marcus Schofield and Andrew Bishop had 10 apiece. Wyoming East (21-2) is looking for its third championship in four seasons. The Warriors play Tug Valley on Friday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals.

Frankfort’s Logan Wolford led all scorers with 27 points. Frankfort had reached the tournament for the first time since 2001.

Oak Hill 63, Keyser 38

CHARLESTON (AP) — Jack Flournoy had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oak Hill to a 63-38 win over Keyser in the Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday.

Second-seeded Oak Hill (19-4) will play No. 3 Weir (19-3) in Friday’s semifinals.

Oak Hill never trailed, leading by as many as 12 points in the first quarter and 30-19 at halftime.

Deandre Leonard added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Oak Hill while Kalif Wright had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Seventh-seeded Keyser (13-11) was looking to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2003. It has lost four times in the quarterfinals since then.

Wes Washington had 11 points and Peyton Hartman had 10 rebounds for Keyser, which shot just 23 percent (14 of 62) from the floor.

Wheeling Park 60, Martinsburg 52

CHARLESTON (AP) — Bubby Goodwin scored 19 points to lead Wheeling Park to a 60-52 win over defending champion Martinsburg in the Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Second-seeded Wheeling Park (22-2) led 17-8 after the first quarter and advanced to the semifinals for the second straight year.

Richard Hall added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Wheeling Park.

Jean-Eddy Clerius led seventh-seeded Martinsburg (16-5) with 19 points. Brandon Ashenfelter scored 14, George Chase had 12 rebounds and Jeremy Johnson added 10 points.

Martinsburg shot just 33 percent (18 of 55) from the floor, including 26 percent in the first half.

Weir 54, Sissonville 42

CHARLESTON (AP) — Shawn Burns scored 22 points, L.J. Campbell added 21 and Weir beat Sissonville 54-42 in the Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Sissonville stormed from 12 points down in the fourth quarter, going on a 12-2 run to pull within 38-36 on a Lucas Walker 3-pointer with 5:39 remaining. But the Indians ran out of luck.

Burns scored three unanswered baskets after that and the Red Riders advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2006.

Third-seeded Weir (19-3) went ahead to stay with an 18-3 run spanning the first and second periods. Campbell scored 12 points during the run and had 16 in the first half as Weir led 24-15 at halftime.

Caleb Keller led sixth-seeded Sissonville (19-5) with 17 points and Walker had 10.
