CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School Lady Tigers softball team bought its tickets to the state softball tournament last night with a 6-0 drubbing of the Herbert Hoover High Huskies at the Chapmanville Softball Complex.

Chapmanville pitcher Andi Williamson fired a no-hitter and struck out 20 HHS batters to get the win.

Allison Evans came up big for the Lady Tigers. She hit an RBI double and an RBI single and made the throw from her short stop position to first to get the final out of the game. Jenna Evans hit a pair of singles and an RBI, Bre Thomas hit a couple singles, Tiffini Hale hit a single and an RBI and Williamson and Lauren Shumate each batted in a run.

The Lady Tigers scored their first run of the evening when Allison Evans crossed home on Shumate’s RBI to make it 1-0 in the top of the second inning.

In the top of the third, Poppy Ramey was walked and Beth Baldwin sacrificed to move Ramey to second. Jenna Evans then hit a single to score Ramey. Allison Evans then smacked a double to score her twin sister, Jenna, to give the Lady Tigers a 3-0.

Thomas hit a single in the top of the sixth inning and scored the Lady Tigers’ fourth run of the evening on an error by Herbert Hoover.

Chapmanville put the game away in the top of the seventh inning when Jenna Evans beat the throw to first for a basehit and then scored on an error to give CRHS a 5-0 lead. Allison Evans then hit an RBI single to send Williamson home and to set the final score.

The Lady Tigers improved to 28-3 on the year and will play next Wednesday in Vienna in the Class AA state tournament at 11:30 a.m. against Independence. The Patriots downed Shady Spring last night in the Region 3 final. Point Pleasant, which beat Chapmanville during the regular season, takes on Lincoln at 9:30 a.m. in the Class AA state opener.

The state tournament appearance is the first for CRHS since winning the title in 2007. The Lady Tigers are going for their fourth state trophy. They won it in 1999 and 2004, too.

“This is what we’ve worked for all year,” Williamson said. “Our team has always given 110 percent and I think we can win a state title if we continue to play hard. This feels really good.”

Williamson said she was praying during the last out.

“I was praying ‘Please Lord, just let us do this,” she said.

Ramey said she’s so excited to make it to state.

“It feels awesome,” Ramey said. “I’m so excited. Everybody gave 100 percent and hopefully they’ll give 100 percent down there. I think we’ll be the next state champions. I can’t wait. We’re going to have a blast this year. Everybody has to be focused and give 100 percent like they gave today. Everybody gets along and the key is that everybody plays together and tells each other ‘Good job’. We’ve just got to keep giving 100 percent.”

CRHS Coach Ronnie Ooten said he’s proud of his kids.

“I want this so bad for these kids,” Ooten said after the win. “They’ve worked hard. This is a super win. Andi threw a heck of a ballgame. I am really happy for the kids. They’ve worked real hard and we have a shot at it.”

Ooten said he hopes the Lady Tigers’ hitting comes around.

“We hit in spurts,” Ooten said. “We’ll come up in situations where kids are supposed to knock the cover off the ball and they’ll pop it up. We just have to work through this.”

Rachel Mack suffered the loss on the mound for the Huskies, who finish their season with a 16-8 record. She gave up six runs on seven hits. Chapmanville went 3-0 this season against Hoover. The Lady Tigers had swept the Huskies in a twinbill during the seasons.
