It’s a sign of the times, newspapers across the country are looking for ways to cut expenses without impacting the news product. The Logan Banner is no exception.
Citing lower advertising revenue, effective this Monday May 18, 2009, the company will discontinue printing the Monday paper.
“We have looked at all options to cut expenses without hurting our news product”, said Logan Banner publisher Richard Osborne. “Many newspapers across the country are cutting jobs, furloughing employees or cutting news coverage. We felt that eliminating one day a week would be the best alternative to those measures, allowing us to save on newsprint and distribution expense, with the least amount of impact on jobs”. Currently there are over 35 full and part time employees at The Logan Banner
Osborne cited a recent report where several newspapers across the country have dropped one day or more of their publications as a cost savings measure since the economy started slipping last year.
“We want to assure our local readers and advertisers this is not a move we have taken lightly. The Logan Banner has serving southern West Virginia for over 120 years and we hope to be around for another 120 years,” Osborne said.
