CMS girls pound on Burch, 47-16

The Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team racked up win number two of the young season with Thursday night’s 47-16 win over Burch Middle in the first round of the CMS Holiday Tournament at Chapmanville.

The Lady Tigers started fast, jumping out to a 16-2 first quarter lead and taking a commanding 30-4 advantage at the half.

“We played everybody the second half and gave the young kids some valuable experience,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said. “Our pressure defense got us out quick with some easy buckets and we were able to run up and down the floor.”

Abby Marcum led the L:ady Tigers with 12 points. She was followed by Lexi Martin, who tallied 10 on the night. Hollie Carter had eight, Alyson Bragg four and Taylor Manns three. Richelle Thompson, Alyx Bush, Beth Ball, Nadia Perry and Kaylee

Blair all chipped in with two points each.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play the winner of Harts and Guyan Valley on Saturday for the tourney championship. CMS is slated to host Sherman on Monday at 6 p.m.
