WHITMAN, W.Va. — Howard R. Thayer, 97, of Whitman, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Trinity Healthcare in Logan.

Born March 29, 1915, at Rockland, Mich., he was a son of the late Willie Warner and Ethel May Thayer. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Elsie D. Thayer; daughter, Nancy Ellen Thayer, and one sister, Muriel Anderson.

Mr. Thayer was formerly employed as a Stationary Engineer for the Rollins Division of Zenith Television, and he was formerly a member of the McConnell Tabernacle. Howard enjoyed being at home with his special family, going to church or just sitting down and having a good old conversation with anyone because Howard never met a stranger.

He is survived by a daughter Barbara Ann Polhamis with her last known address of Santa Cruz, CA, one grandchild, and special sons Bruce Blair of Whitman and Raymond (and Mary-Momma) Epperhart of Whitman, Howard always called her Mary-Momma because she cared for him while he was ill, two special grandchildren Ashley (and John) Williamson and Raymond Epperhart of Whitman.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Friends may call on Saturday from 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home.
