A local resident is being featured as a calendar girl for Betsy Murphy’s “Classic Beauties.”

Laura Hatfield, known for winning several local beauty pageants and as a castmember of many The Aracoma Story productions, did a photo shoot with Murphy at several classic car shows in the area.

Hatfield also made a special appearance in the 2012 Veterans Day Parade in Charleston with other “Classic Beauty” girls featured in the calendar.

Classic Beauties has evolved into a service group of calendar girls that is active in fundraising for the causes that they support. Classic Beauties honors the Veterans and active military. Monetary donations go to the USO. The beauties also visit veterans at nursing home and most recently visited the Barboursville Veterans Home during the Christmas season to deliver baked goods.

Classic Beauties is also supporting the David Lee Cancer Center, where Murphy is a patient. CAMC will be breaking ground on the new cancer center this spring.

Betsy Murphy has been doing boudoir and pin-up photography for seven years.

“As a history buff, the pinups from the WWII era got my eye, as did the classic cars,” Murphy said. “So I decided three years ago to create Classic Beauties Pin-ups, a group of calendar girls that possessed the qualities of the classic beauties of the past. We demonstrate class, sophistication, and sensual femininity.”

Murphy has a large collection of vintage clothing and uses it to recreate a nostalgic photo with the girl being dressed appropriately for the era of the car or plane she photographs.

“They have been very good to me as I have a year-long series of treatments for Breast Cancer,” Murphy said. “We will be hosting a car show/dance this spring, appropriately called “Spring Fling” in Charleston with the proceeds to go to the Cancer Center.”

The Classic Beauty models are from the Huntington/Charleston/Logan area and are professional women, students, mothers and the girl next door. Murphy said she is always looking for new models; experience is not needed as long as the person feels they embody the classic quality it takes to be a beauty.
