Baptist Help Center
Editor,
The First Baptist Church of Man would like to publicly recognize the area churches who donate money and manual labor to operate the Baptist Help Center.
We serve approximately 150 families each month. It seems to be increasing as the economy worsens.
Again we say “thanks a million” to the following churches:
Bethel Baptist Church of Lorado
Bruce McDonald Methodist Church of Man
Freewill Baptist Church of Kistler
Mallory Baptist Church of Mallory
The Nazarene Church of Man
St. Edmonds Catholic Church of Man
First Baptist Church of Man and other anonymous donors.

Donel Kinnard Memorial Veterans Cemetery
Editor,
This Veterans Day, I’m thinking about something really special we did this year in West Virginia when we opened the Donel Kinnard Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Institute.
Don was a dedicated service member and an equally dedicated veteran – fighting for every veteran at every turn. This cemetery is a fitting tribute to him. For generations to come, family members and loved ones – and all West Virginians – will have a peaceful place to remember and pay their respects.
As a veteran, I can think of no greater honor for those who’ve gone before us. I thank Dow Chemical for donating the land, and I thank our elected officials – especially Senator Jay Rockefeller, for working hard with our Vietnam Veterans Chapter 308 and other Veterans Organizations, throughout the state to make this awe-inspiring cemetery possible.

Editor,
Remembering and honoring veterans is something we should day every day, not just on Veterans Day. West Virginia is doing just that with the Donel Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
This cemetery not only honors Don Kinnard, but it will also allow us to pay tribute to many other West Virginia Veterans. Having a final resting place for veterans is important and it is the right thing to do.
I want to thank Senator Rockefeller for never giving up on this project and working for six years to see it come to fruition. We all worked together long and hard to make this project a success.
The completed cemetery is breathtakingly beautiful whether or not you are a veteran. I am so thankful that we can now properly pay our respects to the West Virginia veterans we have lost today and every day.

With West Virginia finally having a veterans cemetery, funded by the state and centrally located, honoring our hometwon veterans has become easier and more accessible. The Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, which opened on Memorial Day of 2012, is truly an honorable tribute to those who have passed, as well as a peaceful and beautiful sanctuary for those that go there to remember. The DCKMSVC not only provides our veterans with a peaceful eternal resting place, but it also assists those veterans that are looking for assistance and/or benefits for themselves and their family. The staff is dedicated to assisting veterans and their family members, no matter what type of assistance is needed. The honor guard at the DCKMSVC is probably one of the most dedicated and sincere group of individuals that I have had the opportunity to work with. In accordance with Veterans Day, the DCKMSVC stayed open for the holiday weekend to assist those that came to honor their loved ones. West Virginia has always appreciated their military based loved ones, and I don't think there is a better place to give each and every veteran, and their dependant(s), a more distinguished and honored sanctuary for their final resting place. Thank you Don for your perserverance. May you rest in peace.
