MAN — The Man High School volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season as the Lady Billies split with Chapmanville Regional and Westside on Thursday at home.

Man beat county rival Chapmanville 2-0 by the scores of 25-23 and 25-20.

The Lady Billies then suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Westside 2-0 by the scores of 25-19 and 25-18.

Man now stands at 8-1 on the season heading into next week’s action.

“I felt like we made a lot of mistakes in both matches, but for the first time this season we could not recover from the high amount of mistakes we made against Westside because their team is just a little deeper than the teams we had been,” Man coach Orlando Washington said. “I think if we start having better practices it will carry over to our matches. We have to stop beating ourselves and that comes with focusing in on what things we have to do right to be successful.”

The Lady Billies are scheduled to play at new Class A sectional foe Tug Valley on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, Man is set to play at Buffalo. Both matches are slated to start at 6 p.m.

Chapmanville was 0-2 in the tri-match, also losing to Westside two sets to none.
