CHAPMANVILLE — It was a big win over the weekend as the Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team won 67-45 on Saturday night at home over the rival Scott Skyhawks at the CRHS gym.

Chapmanville improved to 9-8 overall and 4-6 in the Cardinal Conference with the win.

The Tigers earned a season series split with Scott, which is also a Class AA sectional opponent. The Skyhawks had won 63-51 over Chapmanville earlier in the season at Madison.

No. 9 Scott fell to 11-7 with the loss.

Chapmanville raced out to a 31-12 halftime lead and held a 40-26 advantage after three. The Tigers then outscored Scott 27-19 in the fourth quarter to set the final score. CRHS led 13-7 after one quarter.

Mackenzie Martin netted 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Trey Dalton scored 13 and Kenny Plumley also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Jon Williamson added nine points, Zac Casto four and Brady Cox two.

Matt Dolin notched 14 points for the Skyhawks. Cody Brown had 10.

Chapmanville is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night at Mingo Central. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Tigers then go to Wayne on Friday before hosting Sissonville on Saturday night. The regular season finale is Feb. 19 at home against Man.

Westside 62,

Logan 58

CLEAR FORK — The Logan boys’ basketball team slipped to 6-10 on the season with Saturday night’s 62-58 loss at Westside.

Westside rallied back from a 16-point deficit with three minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Renegades (14-6), coming off an emotional win over Wyoming East the night before, finished off a stretch of four games in five nights.

Corey Bowles scored 21 points to lead Westside. Justin Kenneda and Justin Cogar each tallied 13 points. Levi Lambert had 11.

Logan netted 11 3-pointers on the night, led by Zak Miller, who finished with a game-high 23 points. Z. Minnick tossed in 14 for the Wildcats.

A.J. Reynolds had seven, Chase Preston six, T.J. Tomblin four and Worm Street three. Trent Dalton chipped in with two points.

Logan was 6-for-9 from the free throw line. The Renegades were 10-for-17.

Westside is scheduled to play at Shady Spring on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats are slated to play at Parkersburg on Tuesday before taking on Winfield on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Winfield game is part of the five-game Shootout at the Big House. Game 1 has Lincoln County taking on Elkins at noon. At 2:45 p.m., Sissonville battles with Liberty-Raleigh, while the 4:30 p.m. contest has Charleston Catholic battling it out with Tug Valley. Then at 6:15 p.m., George Washington is set to play Parkersburg South before the nightcap game between Logan and Winfield.

After taking on Winfield, the Wildcats are slated to have its third game in three nights on Thursday as Tolsia comes to Willie Akers Arena for an 8:30 p.m. contest. The Tolsia game is part of a boys/girls doubleheader with the Logan girls, which are scheduled to face county rival Chapmanville Regional at 7 p.m.

GIRLS

Chapmanville 64,

Mingo Central 32

CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team won its second straight game with Saturday afternoon’s 64-32 win at home over Mingo Central, a Class AA sectional opponent and Cardinal Conference foe.

Chapmanville improved to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in the league.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Miners split during the regular season. Mingo Central had won 48-31 at Newtown on Dec. 15.

Junior guard Kristin DesRocher led Chapmanville in Saturday’s game with 21 points. Katelynn Hall contributed double-double figures with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jessica Rideout added 12 points for the Lady Tigers. Hillary Hainer netted seven, while Hailey Price had five and Codi Conley three. Katelynn Manns and Savannah Wiley had two each. Shian Meeks and Autumn Blankenship chipped in with one point apiece.

The Lady Tigers led 13-9 after one quarter, 26-16 at the half and 43-27 after three. Chapmanville’s 21-5 advantage in the fourth quarter broke the game wide open for a 32-point win over Mingo Central.

Ashley Curry led Mingo Central with a 12-point effort.

Chapmanville has two games left in the regular season — Thursday night at Logan and Saturday night at home against Sissonville at 6 p.m. The Sissonville game is the home finale and Senior Night for the Lady Tigers.

Greenbrier East 66,

Logan 62

LEWISBURG — Greenbrier East made it a sweep over the Logan High School girls’ basketball team with Saturday night’s 66-62 loss at Class AAA Greenbrier East.

Greenbrier East, coached by Jim Justice, improved to 17-0 on the season with the win. The Spartans won 56-52 on Jan. 25 at Logan as part of the King Coal Classic.

Chaunte McDowell led Greenbrier East with 25 points, while Bianca Andre had 23.

Hannah Tothe led Logan (11-7) with 21 points. Shayna Gore had 17 and Monica Mitchell 10. Kyra Cline had six, Rachelle Toppings five, Kelsey Kirk two and Hannah Adkins one.

The Spartans led 21-14 after one quarter, 37-26 at the half and 50-38 after three. Logan outscored East 24-16 in the fourth.

Logan was scheduled to return to action on Monday night at home against Winfield. The Lady Cats then host Chapmanville on Thursday night.
