Gov. Tomblin signs proclamation for Arthritis Awareness Month
by Debbie Rolen
Staff Writer

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin signed a proclamation for Arthritis Awareness Month, recognizing the 523,000 people across West Virginia who struggle with arthritis every day.

In support of Arthritis Awareness month, the Chief Logan Recreational Center is starting ongoing Tai Chi classes endorsed and taught by the National Arthritis Foundation.

Classes are free to members 60 and older and will be held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Tai chi is an ancient practice proven to reduce pain and improve mental and physical well-being. The Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program, developed by Dr. Paul Lam, MD, uses gentle sun-style tai chi routines that are safe, easy to learn and suitable for every fitness level.

Tai Chi helps reduce stress, increase balance and flexibility, improves overall mind, body and spirit and medical studies confirm the Tai Chi Program relieves pain, reduces falls and improves quality of life.
