GOP candidate for Attorney General Patrick Morrisey made a campaign run through Southern West Virginia Friday, visiting McDowell, Wyoming and Logan Counties.
“We’ve been making multi-county visits,” said Morrisey during his visit to The Logan Banner offices. “We’re in Logan County for a good part of the day. We’re trying to spend some time here to let people know there is a real difference in the two candidates for Attorney General.”
Morrisey said his goal is to help West Virginia and its citizens, and would have no problem working with a Democratic governor.
“I’m someone would can work both sides of the aisle, regardless of who gets elected,” said Morrisey. “I’m going to be someone who can sit down with the governor, the agencies and the Legislature and come up with policies that work for Logan County and Southern West Virginia. You have to be for West Virginia, these are difficult times.”
Morrisey blames Obama for the recent havoc to West Virginia and its economy and citizens.
“President Obama is the person reeking havoc to our state,” said Morrisey. “Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat or Independent, let’s unite against the Obama policies.”
Morrisey said he wants to take on Obama’s policies that are killing the State’s coal industry.
“Quite frankly, Darrell McGraw has not been a leader in that area,” said Morrisey. “That is one of the major reasons I am running for office. I think West Virginia deserves an Attorney General who will take on EPA aggressively. Not someone who occasionally signs on only when he is directed to do so by the Governor. We need a strong leader to protect our coal and coal jobs.”
Morrisey said he has the experience to fight the EPA.
“I have good federal regulatory experience to challenge these overreaching regulations that are killing our jobs and the state,” said Morrisey. “The EPA is really going after the fabric of the energy industry in our country. To put it bluntly, President Obama wants to see the death of fossil fuel in our country. That’s not right and it’s terrible for West Virginia. We need someone who is strong to stand up to all those job killing regulations. I will, I have a background in that area; Darrell McGraw doesn’t and won’t.”
Morrisey said McGraw has done some positive things as Attorney General.
“I would be the first one to say that Darrell McGraw has done some positive things. I compliment him,” said Morrisey. “But in the area of challenging the EPA and Obama’s job killing policies, he’s been terrible … he’s let us down. We need a strong leader to fight for our coal and our coal miners.”
Morrisey said his priority is the state, regardless of who wins the presidential election.
“I clearly support Romney. I am strongly opposed to President Obama’s reelection. We can’t afford another four years of Obama,” said Morrisey. “But I will work with any administration to protect our coal jobs. Regardless of who wins the White House, there is going to be a lot of clean up to do over these past four years of Obama’s policies that have crippled our state.
“We need a strong leader who will step forward and challenge Obama if he wins. If he doesn’t, then we need to work to change the regulations that are impacting our state.”
Morrisey said he plans to keep consumer protection a top priority.
“We need to keep up good consumer protection, but we need to fight against Washington excess because that is what our biggest problem is now,” said Morrisey. “We have to put West Virginia’s interests first.”
Morrisey said he will be visiting every county in the state several times before the November 4 election and spending a lot of time in Southern West Virginia.
“We want people in Southern West Virginia and Logan County to know that they will have a fighter in the Attorney General’s office,” said Morrisey. “After 32 years in office, we should thank Darrell McGraw for his service, but now it is time to elect someone with skill sets that can take on the EPA and these rogue federal agencies that are killing our jobs.”
