MAN — The Man High School girls’ volleyball team hasn’t had the best of luck in recent years.
But with added depth and some returning players coming back the Lady Billies hope to make some noise during the 2012 season.
The new campaign begins on Thursday, Aug. 30 as Man plays at Logan in the Logan County tri-match against rivals Chapmanville Regional and the host Lady Cats.
“We’re excited about the upcoming season,” Man coach Orlando Washington said. “We are in a new section this year that very well could possibly help us advance further in our sectional.”
The Lady Billies have seven returning players to go along with seven new faces, giving Man a 14-player roster.
Man is led by returning starters Summer Sword and Morgan Conn.
“Both girls are entering their fourth year of volleyball. I am excited about this upcoming season because our numbers are up and we have got to scrimmage on a daily basis. That has helped us out a lot,” Washington said. “With Summer and Morgan’s leadership, the team should do really well. We have a mix of experience and youth that has blended well in our camp. This team is one of the most athletic teams I have had since I’ve been the coach here. We have five seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and five freshmen.”
The Lady Billies play in a new Class A volleyball sectional this season with Tug Valley, Greater Beckley Christian, Sherman and Montcalm. Tug Valley drops down this season from 2A.
