The Logan High School Prayer Club collected an encore of commodities that filled the stage of the school’s Little Theater.
According to club adviser and teacher John E. Godby, this year there was an outpouring of goods donated due to the Mud Fork area flooding.
“Families in that location were given Easter food boxes from the collections, as well as the less fortunate families of the Logan High School district,” Godby said.
On Saturday, March 11, a group of LHS Prayer Club students, friends, and chaperons distributed plastic grocery bags throughout several areas of the county. The bags had a taped note on it asking residents to place a can of food inside. The next Saturday, March 18, the grocery bags were retrieved from Mitchell Heights to McConnell along Route 10, and a bounty of goods was collected. Logan Middle School donated a pickup truck load of food and the LHS students and teachers gave also. Individuals from the Logan communities gave monetary donations to assist in buying the hams for each family.
“This Easter Canned Food Drive was the biggest since its origin,” said Godby.
The club collected more than $900 from the student body that was divided equally among the students that were flood victims. The money was used to purchase a grocery store gift card.
Godby and the LHS Prayer Club members want to thank each contributor to the Easter Project. “Logan Countians are benevolent minded folks,” Godby said. “We have had our share of disasters and know how to respond to bring some relief to the hurting and hungry. Teaching our students community service and good will is certainly part of the education system’s goal to create productive and successful citizens. There should always be room for instruction in the spiritual and moral makeup of the human family.
“The Logan County Board of Education and our superintendent and staff are supporters of humanitarian acts. It is good to know that our people have compassion and mercy on our side.”
The Logan High School Prayer Club meets weekly on Tuesdays for the spiritual welfare of the student body and it practices good works and will toward the less fortunate and hurting.
