CHAPMANVILLE — A local student has the opportunity to win a full four year scholarship, but she needs your help.

Summer Peyton of Chapmanville is one of 10 finalists for the 2012 WV Scholar scholarship. If she wins, she will be awarded a full, four-year tuition, with fees, room and board scholarship

“I was selected as a finalist based on my high school transcript, an essay I composed, an interview, and my guidance counselor’s recommendation,” said Peyton. “I am the only finalist from Logan County and really in southern West Virginia. The closest other finalists to us are from Ripley and Parkersburg.”

One of the categories now for winning the scholarship competition is online voting. “People can go to www.wvscholar.com and click on “vote”,” said Peyton. “They can also go to “finalists” to see my biography and video interview.”

After voting you receive an e-mail, which you have to open and click “confirm my vote”. There can be only one vote per email address. This keeps people from voting limitless times. Voting will go to June 17.

Peyton is the daughter of Jerry and Sunny Peyton. She has two younger siblings, Justin, 12, and Jillian, 10.

“I am an honor student at LHS and President of the LHS Honor Society and I volunteer for Relay for Life and the Logan County Autism Association,” Peyton said.

As a tribute to her brother Justin, Peyton has enjoyed volunteering for the committee that holds the Logan County Autism Walk and assisting the committee, which includes her parents, in starting The Umbrella Project, a service that will provide free direct resources and materials for individuals with autism in Logan County. For the last two years she has also enjoyed volunteering at the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser in Logan. She is an honor student at Logan High School, where she is currently a junior and President of the LHS Honor Society. She has enjoyed working on the school’s website and prom committee. In 2007, Summer traveled to England and France as a People to People Student Ambassador.

“I’m proud to represent my county in this scholarship competition,” said Peyton.

Again, visit www.wvscholar.com and click on “vote”, search for Summer Peyton and click on vote. There will be a confirmation email that you must open and click to confirm you vote. Only one vote per email address allowed.
