LHS to present spring musical
by Martha Sparks
Society Editor

Following rave reviews for their performance in “Grease” last fall, Logan High School students will again take the stage for a spring musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

“The show is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh,” said Bill France, Theater, Broadcasting and Language Arts teacher. “The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 film. The musical was turned into a major motion picture, directed by Frank Oz, in the 1980s. The music composed by Menken is in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown.”

France will direct the production and musical director will be Ellen Woods Ramey, LHS’s Music and Theater teacher. The pair also teamed up for the school’s fall show, “Grease”.

Students have already been cast roles in the production.

Sophomore Calvin Tomblin will be handling the role of Seymour. The role of Audrey will be handled by Sara Faith Browning, a Freshman. The owner of the flower shop, Mr. Mushnik will be handled by Senior, Jason McCloud. Orin, the sadistic dentist, will be played by Sophomore, Richard Ojeda. The Doo-Wop girls, who act as narrators for the story, are played by Shana Nelson (Crystal), Kaitlyn Williamson (Chiffon) and Staci Hall (Ronnette). The voice of the plant, Audrey II will be provided by junior, Dylan Vidovich.

The puppeteers for Audrey II will be Caleb Browning, Hunter Napier and Alex Crum, Mr. Bernstein will be Josh McAllister, Mrs. Luce will be Cheynne Sellards, Skip Snip will be played by Caleb Runyon, Patrick Martin will be Hunter Napier , Customer No. 1 will be David Spurlock, WSKID TV reporter will be Skylar Prichard, Aretha Denton will be Elisha Marcum, WSKID TV Cameraman will be Jackson Frye, Lockjaw Lucy will be played by Katie Hall, Dental Nurse will be Chelsey Rupport, Chang will be Shane Vance and the dance captain will be Alex Wooten.

The cast will also feature Skid Row residents, customers and dental patients played by Sara R. Browning, Stefanie Davis, Ariel Estep, Lexi Morgan, Makayla White, Zachary Davis, Christina Thompson, Michael Willis, Brittany Collins, Kirstiana Drummer, Brittany Hodges, Kaylee Wolf and Jennifer Burns.

The show will be presented in April in the newly upgraded Phyllis Adkins Little Theater. According to France, there will be public performances as well as in-school shows for students.
