McCoy named MHS 2013 Valedictorian

MAN — Jacob Harold McCoy will be named valedictorian at Man High School’s graduation ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Man Field House.

At Man High School, Jacob has been a consistent honor student, finishing his high school career with a GPA hovering around 4.2. His leadership positions at Man include Beta Club President,

National Honor Society President, Senior Class President, Student Council Vice President, and Senior member of the Student Leadership Association.

His extra-curricular achievements include National Current Events Individual Runner-Up in Academic Games, leading his team to a National Academic Games Current Events Championship, and being a finalist for the United States Senate Youth Program for West Virginia.

McCoy will continue his studies this Fall at West Virginia University in Morgantown where he has been admitted to their Honors College and been given early admission into their business college. He will be aided by West Virginia University’s Bucklew Scholarship, valued at $30,000, as well as WVU’s valedictorian scholarship, and the state-wide PROMISE Scholarship. He plans on studying in the business field with focuses in Finance and Economics. He hopes to one day use this knowledge to run for national political office, but would also enjoy working in the private sector as a budget analyst or economic advisor.

Between McCoy’s graduation and then, however, he will have a busy summer, working on Honors summer assignments, playing the young Boling Baker in this year’s version of The Aracoma Story, and continuing to work as an independent professional wrestler.

McCoy is the son of Harold and Jean Ann McCoy.

Other honor graduates include:

• Summa Cum Laude — Abigail Lusk, Jacob McCoy, Zachary Short, Summer Sword and Kourtney Thompson.

• Magna Cum Laude — Katlyn Brown, Morgan Church, Tabitha Ferguson, Marissa Hare, Emilee Osborne, Jacob Osborne and Tiara Owens.

• Cum Laude — Amia Adkins, Sarah Bailey, Jordan Bourne, Kassondra Brown, David Burgess, Thomas Compton, Devon Goodman, Austin Grimmett, Jennifer Grimmett, Marcus Hughes, Megan Jude, Alex Laws, Clinton McNeely, Marcus Murrell, Katie Nelson, Lavonda Smith, Joshua Stewart, Taylor Tomblin and Taylor Whited.

— Editors Note — This year the procedure for position of honor graduates has changed. Per Logan County Policy VII.14: All grades received for courses taken for high school credit will be used to calculate a student’s GPA. Honor graduate positions are as follows: 3.00 to 3.49 Cum Laude - High Honor; 3.50 to 3.99 Magna Cum Laude - Great Honor, and 4.00 and Above Summa Cum Laude - Highest Honor. The valedictorian will be the student with the highest grade point average based upon the above listed scale. If more than one student has the same grade point average, the student with the highest ACT (American College Test) composite score result will be declared the valedictorian.

If he were 40 years old, he would already be more qualified to run the nation than Obama. Nobody even knows obama's GPA! I would guess Obama's GPA is about 2.1, or slightly lower. Obama thought there were 57 states...Jacob would rip the faux president's general knowledge to sheds. Obama had the nerve to speak down to some black college students yesterday. Why doesn't he open his grade transcripts if he is so good?
