CHAPMANVILLE — The Logan County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) hosted a unique event at Logan County Club on Friday, November 30, entitled “Chasing Away the Blues.” The event featured Blues legend Johnny Rawls. Rawls has been nominated and has received numerous awards including Best Male Soul Blues Artist, Best Soul Blues Album and the Critics Award for Best Album of the Year by Living Blues Magazine.
The show began with a special performance by Time Machine, a youth Blues band from Princeton’s Stages Music School in Princeton, who wowed the audience with their talent.
Then national blues legend Johnny Rawls was welcomed to the stage by CAC Chair Attorney Bob Noone.
“Johnny Rawls is a well-known blues road warrior that has literally logged a million miles at blues concerts and festivals, delivering blues and R & B with heart and soul,” said Noone in his introduction of Rawls. “His ‘grits and greens rootsiness’ is met with pop accessibility.”
Rawls and his band performed a steamy brand of blues, anchored by Rawl’s amazing, masterful guitar showmanship. The audience was treated to two amazing sets of music, dance and fun.
The evening was collaboration between the Logan County Child Advocacy Center, the West Virginia Blues Society who made it possible for the Logan area to host a nationally known artist, and the community. Sponsors for the event included: White Eye Care Center, Robert Noone Legal Services, West Virginia Blues Society, Abraham and Ilderton PLLC, Carl Adkins Law PLLC, Hatfield McCoy Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Kuenzel & Associates PLLC, Logan Motorcycle-Keefer Kawaski, Man Clothing & Jewelry Co., Thornhill Auto Group, Wilson Eye Care of Williamson and the WVU Extension Office of Logan.
Additional support was provided by Libby Albright at Nu Era Bakery, Best Western Logan Inn & Huddle House, Logan Bank and Trust, and Stanley Perry.
The West Virginia Blues Society donated a special guitar signed by many touring Blues artists for auction. In addition, a silent auction was conducted with items provided by Becky Gore of Lake, Stacy Mayhorn of Logan and Lighthouse Florist of Gilbert.
All proceeds from the event go to support The Logan County Child Advocacy Center in their work with abused children in Logan and Mingo Counties.
