Lady Cats win opener over Lady Billies

MAN — The Logan High School girls’ basketball team began the season in good fashion on Tuesday afternoon by scoring a 61-40 victory at Man over the homestanding Lady Billies.

The game was played in front of the Man student body at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Lady Cats jumped on top of the Lady Billies 17-4 after the first quarter of play and never looked back.

Logan (1-0) led 31-15 at the half and 49-24 after three.

The Lady Billlies (0-1) outscored Logan 16-12 in the fourth quarter.

Kyra Cline poured in 22 points to lead Logan. Sophomore point guard Shayna Gore had 13 for the Lady Cats, while Summer Collins tossed in six points.

Monica Mitchell and Amanda Williamson tallied four each for the Lady Cats, while Rachelle Toppings had three.

Hannah Tothe, Katie Kirk, Kelsey Kirk and Hannah Adkins all had two points each for Logan. Junior Hannah Kolovich added one point for LHS.

Summer Sword led Man with a 22-point effort, tying game-high honors with Cline. The Lady Billies also got six points from Taylor Whited, five from Jennifer Shull, three from Mika McCoy and two apiece from Morgan Conn and Hannah Harvey.

Logan is scheduled to return to action on Thursday night at home against Class AAA South Charleston in a 7:30 p.m. tip. It will be the home opener for the Lady Cats, coached by third-year mentor Kevin Gertz. Logan then goes to Class AA defending champion and No. 1-ranked Westside on Dec. 5 before going to Capital on Dec. 10 and Huntington on Dec. 13. Logan then has a rematch against Capital on Dec. 15 at home before hosting 2A Tolsia on Dec. 18.

The Lady Billies, coached by Tonia Ward, host Class AAA Ripley on Dec. 4 and Cross Lanes Christian on Dec. 13.
