John Crihfield Farms and Greenhouses has returned to the Logan County Farmers’ Market, offering a large selection of farm-fresh produce and West Virginia Grown garden plants just in time for Mother’s Day.
“This is great news for the patrons of the Logan County Farmers’ Market,” said Market Manager Joy Vance. “This year there will be an even larger selection of great produce, flowers and garden stock to choose from. We will also be offering free samples of select West Virginia products on Saturday, May 11, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. to help celebrate Crihfield’s return.
The West Virginia store at the market features canned goods all produced by small family farms. Tomatoes, salsa, spaghetti sause, hot dog sause, chow-chow, honey, jams and jellies are just a few of the items available.
As part of spring festivities, the Market hosted a spring planting and learning experience for Head Start children from the Delbarton Early Childhood Center on May 9. The children were excited and inquisitive about the produce and flowers, and Ms. Vance and Assistant Manager Bill Miller were on hand to answer their questions and help them pot the flowers they took home with them.
The Logan County Farmers’ Market is one of three Department of Agriculture operated farmers’ markets around the state including Capitol Market in downtown Charleston and the Inwood Farmers’ Market located in the Eastern Panhandle in Inwood.
The Crihfield Farms and Greenhouses has been producing hundreds of acres of produce for 70 years. They also provide flats of budding plants and vegetables and thousands of hanging baskets and flowers in porch pots.
Stock currently on hand includes a large selection of potted and hanging flowers for Mother’s Day, plus fresh half-runners, potatoes, corn, squash, tomatoes and more. Garden plants ready to set out include tomatoes, peppers, cabbages, cucumbers, squash, seed corn, onions, among others.
The Logan County Market is open year-round with summer hours beginning May 28. Market hours are Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and closed on Sunday. The Market is located one mile west of Chapmanville at the Old Logan Road exit of Route 110. For more information, call 304-792-7017.
