Andi Williamson is certainly having a fine senior season with the Marshall University softball team.

The 2009 Chapmanville Regional High School graduate and former player for the Chapmanville Lady Tigers and the old Harts High School Lady Lions, is currently leading the nation in strikeouts with 253 among NCAA Division I players.

Williamson is currently 22-11 within the circle this season for the Marshall Thundering Herd with a 2.21 ERA, tops on the team.

Williamson has started 28 games and has made seven relief appearances. She has thrown 199.1 innings and has allowed 63 earned runs and 131 hits while walking 115 to go along with her nation leading 253 strikeouts.

Opponents only have a paltry .193 batting average against the Marshall pitcher.

The Herd softball team has a 23-12 overall record and 9-3 mark in Conference USA.

Marshall, winners of 12 straight games, is scheduled to play a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday at Houston. The Herd then play at Kentucky on Tuesday in a makeup game before taking on Northern Kentucky in a home twinbill on April 10.

Williamson’s 253 strikeouts are three better than Hawaii’s Kaia Parnaby, who has 250. Blaire Luna of Texas has 217 strikeouts. Dallas Escobedo of Arizona State has 197 and Sara Moulton of Minnesota is fifth with 184 punchouts.

Williamson is only 17 strikeouts away from breaking Marshall University’s single-season record.

Last year for Marshall, Williamson won a school record 25 games with 268 strikeouts, just two shy of the all-time record. Her win total was best in Conference USA by four games and her strikeout total was second best.

Williamson posted a 1.50 ERA last season which was fifth best in MU school history and third best in C-USA.

Opponents had a .195 batting average against Williamson last season which was the best in school history.

At the high school level, Williamson led Chapmanville Regional to a 31-3 record and the Class AA state championship in 2009. The Lady Tigers also won a state title her sophomore year in 2007. She led Harts to the Class A state championship game in 2006 as a freshman.

Williamson played one year at Tennessee in 2010 before transferring to Marshall for the 2011 softball season.
