Landau’s got game in Godbyball League

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. has definitely got game.

The Logan native and winner of NBC TV’s America’s Got Talent in 2011 was a special guest player recently in the First Baptist Church of McConnell’s Summer Basketball League, better known as “Godbyball.”

Murphy, a big basketball fan in his own right, was last seen shooting the rock during the winter at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena as he warmed up with the Wildcats on court prior to Logan’s King Coal Classic game at the field house. Murphy showed his skills, knocking down three straight shots from 3-point land and then putting down a couple of slam dunks before singing the National Anthem before tipoff.

Murphy was back in Godbyball recently as he was a special guest player last week with the Air Evac team. Dunny, as his friends call him, played on two winning teams and showed his court skills well.

“Basketball is his favorite game to play and he was a winner like on America’s Got Talent,” said First Baptist Church of McConnell Pastor John E. Godby, the commissioner of the basketball league.

For Murphy, it was just like the old days.

“Landau played in the Godbyball league several years ago when he was washing cars for a living. Now he can pay to have his washed. Dunny plans to drop in on the league when he is not out of town singing,” Godby said.

Murphy played on the Air Evac team with Trent Orso, Hunter Meade, Hunter Napier, Aiden Napier and Kameron Boring. Team members B.J. and Alex Warden were on vacation and did not play.
