MAN — The Logan High School golf team captured its second straight Logan County championship by topping Man and Chapmanville on Wednesday at the county golf meet at the Triadelphia Country Club in Man.

Logan, Man and Chapmanville Regional competed in an 18-hole event with the top five players from each team competing for the championship and individual all-county awards.

Logan came out victorious for the second straight year as the Wildcats shot a 305 for the day.

Chapmanville was a distant second with a 348. Man was third with a 350.

Logan was led by junior Samuel Corns with a 3-over par 73. He had the low round of the event. Corns was followed by senior Eric burnette with a 74. Junior J.C. Motes and sophomore Chase Preston each had a 79 and Nicholas McDonald closed with an 83.

Chapmanville Regional was led By Jacob Workman with a 7-over par 77. William Copley shot an 80, while Jacob Blevins had a 93, Austin Frye a 98 and Casey Vance a 115.

Man was led by Baley Beckwith and T.J. Williamson with each shooting an 81. John Collins and Addison Gillispie each fired a 94, while Nick Adams had a 101.

Al- county team selections were also made. They include: medalist Samuel Corns; Eric Burnette; Jacob Workman; Chase Preston; J.C. Motes; and William Copley.

This is back-to-back county championships for the Wildcats.

Logan coach Cliff Motes was very pleased with how his team competed in the tournament.

“We had a feeling that we should be able to win but with a young Chapmanville Regional team and a young Man High team anything could have happened,” Motes said.

The Wildcats have three regular season matches left until the Class AAA Region 4 golf tournament takes place on Sept. 24 at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Hurricane.
