Logan County was the site of another graffiti removal project last Saturday, August 11.

Volunteers throughout Logan County gathered to become part of the solution throughout the county by spending their morning cleaning up several eyesores in the Logan and Holden areas.

More than 40 volunteers worked with the LEAD Community Organization in conjunction with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department to cover up graffiti and remove litter.

“We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and it is up to all of us to keep it that way” said Major Richard Ojeda, president of the LEAD Community Organization. One of the areas that was beautified was the base of the Ted Belcher Memorial Bridge. “Ted Belcher is a Congressional Medal Of Honor recipient because during the Vietnam War he threw himself onto an enemy grenade to save the lives of the men to his left and right. These are the kinds of people that Logan have produced and they do not deserve to have their names tarnished by swastika’s that have been painted underneath the structures that bear their names” said Ojeda.

LEAD volunteers have worked many hours this spring and summer to clean up and improve the surroundings throughout Logan County. A recent tire cleanup brought in more than 500 tires and trash and debris removal has hit three tons.
