Trail ride honors Vets

JULIAN — Charles Baisden, along with the members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter No. 733, hosted a special trail ride on August 22 that honored five United States Veterans.The First Annual Purple Heart Trail Ride allowed five veterans from across West Virginia and Ohio to come to southern W.Va. and experience the trails and the great Appalachian Mountains first hand. The trip was of no expense to the veterans thanks to the many sponsors that donated for the cause. During the trip, which lasted three days, the veterans rode on the Hatfield and McCoy Little Coal River trail, visited the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Gilbert, ate three meals a day and stayed in a motel, all free of charge.


Early voting begins today

LOGAN — Today is the first day of the ten day early voting period for this November’s General Election. Tens of thousands of people are expected to take advantage of the Early Voting period in the 2014 General Election, which continues until Saturday, November 1.Early Voting is available at the Logan County Courthouse, and County Clerk John Turner says he has secured two parking spots at the Courthouse specifically for early voters.
