Preceding him in death was his parents, Ballard Smith Sr. and Martha Jane James Smith Myers; his beloved wife, Emma Neace Smith; sons, Hollie Darell, Danny Ray, Richard Keith and Randy; daughter, Holly Ann; grandson, Robert L. Fields II; brother, William “Billy” Myers and beloved grandparents, Mommy and Poppy James.
Holly was a retired coal miner from WP Coal Company and proudly served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his son, William C “Bill” Smith of Chauncey; daughters, Dianna J. Sowards of Charleston, Brenda S. Fields of Chauncey, Martha L. (Stanley) Maynard of Inez, Ky., Merry S. Smith (daughter-in-law) and Betty Smith Jude; sister, Joann Ellis of Henlawson; grandchildren, Melissa Fields, Michelle Blaney, Steven (Tammy) Fields, Angela (Donald) Runyon, Misty (Jarrod) Lowe, Ballard Dale Smith, Nicholas Sowards, Adrienna Maynard, Anthony (Amy) Sowards, Emma Smith, and Cody Sowards; great-grandchildren, Salena Fields, Robert Fields III, Kyle Fields, Molly Runyon, Owen Kidd, Paul Fields, Derek Fields and Amelia Trent, and two step-great-grandchildren, Anna Browning and Justin Baxter.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, December 23, at Collins Funeral Home with Bishop Michael Hartwell officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Steven Fields, Dale Smith, Anthony Sowards, Nicholas Sowards, Cody Sowards, and Robert L. Fields III.
Collins Funeral Home at Switzer is in charge of the arrangements.
