Lady Lions roll past Matewan

MATEWAN – The Gilbert High School girls’ basketball team rolled to an easy 70-23 win at Matewan on Tuesday night.

Gilbert (7-6) led 26-5 after one quarter, 38-9 at the half and 57-11 after three.

Danielle Butcher led the Lady Lions with 18 points.

Candace Trent had 10 and Chelsea Lambert nine while Chrissy Farmer and Paige Mullins tossed in eight each.

Brianna New and Shelley Christian had five apiece. Catherine Browning had three and Danielle Browning and Whittani Kirk tallied two each.

Kaitlyn Day led Matewan with 15 points. Nicole Simpkins and Courtney Lester tallied four each.

GHS is scheduled to return to the hardwood tonight at Westside, weather permitting. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
