Logan All Girls Basketball League crowns champions

NAUGATUCK – The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team handed Tug Valley its 10th loss of the season, 63-49, in the Lady Panthers’ final regular season game on Friday night at TVHS.

The Tigers began on a 10-0 run before Whitney Evans sank a 3-pointer to put TV on the board. Evans ended with a game high 37 points.

Chapmanville outscored Tug Valley 16-8 in the first quarter but the Panthers got it together in the second to go to the locker room at the break down by four, 26-22.

The Lady Panthers were only down six going into the fourth but were outscored 20-12 in the final quarter.

Chapmanville had two players in double figures as Jenna Evans had 20 and Kelli Garrett 17. Katelynn Hall and Kristin Desrocher each had nine points, while Kaylee Maynard had four, Alison Evans three and Michelle Mangus one.

Elizabeth Evans had six assists, six steals and five rebounds for TV. Amber Linville added five boards and five blocked shots.

Tug finished 11-10 on the season and will open Class AA sectional play on Monday at Logan against Wayne in the game pitting the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds.

Chapmanville (13-8) is scheduled to open the sectionals on Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Tolsia in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 seed game.

The Tug Valley-Wayne winner will move on to play No. 1 seed Scott on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The two semifinal winners are set to meet on Friday at 7:30 p.m., also at Logan.

The sectional champ and runner-up advance to the upcoming regionals.

Chapmanville split in two meetings this season with the Tolsia Rebels, winning 65-47 at home on Jan. 6 and falling 57-54 on Jan. 29 at Glenhayes.
