Born September 18, 1940, at Verdunville, he was a son of the late Claude Garland and Sena Newsome Marcum. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Rodrick Burns Marcum, and two sisters, Lily “Peanut” Marcum Sheppard and Nellie “Lacy” Harmon.
Robert was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include a loving wife, Dessie Sheppard Marcum; two sons, Robert Christopher (Vicky) Marcum of Lower Sheppardtown and David Allen (Linda) Copley of Virginia; a grandson Robert “Pickle” Jake Edward Marcum of Lower Sheppardtown; a granddaughter, Betty Jo Copley of Virginia; brothers, Colby James Marcum of Holden, Donald Ray (Arlen) Marcum, Lacy Timothy Marcum and Claude Garland (Drema) Marcum, both of South Point, Ohio, Willis (Betty) Marcum of Delbarton and special brother, Billy Marcum of Delbarton; sisters Geraldine Fay Mahone of Delbarton, Laura Rife Herman of Delaware and Judy Kay (Gail) Nelson of Logan; adopted daughters and sons, Debra Lynn Jude, Mary Lavone Sammons, Wilburn Gene Jude and Anthony “Tony” Dow Sammons, all of Duncan Fork, and special friends, Ed and Pricilla Marcum of Naugatuck and George Ooten of Belo.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Layton Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheppard Cemetery at Lower Sheppardtown.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
