Volunteers across the state are rallying to improve their local parks, public spaces, waterways, hiking trails, sidewalks and streets by participating in the Department of Environmental Protection's West Virginia Make It Shine Statewide Clean-up, which takes place April 1st through April 15th.

The City of Logan will kick-off its activities with The City of Logan Clean Up on April 11th, 2011. To volunteer, call Logan City Hall at 752-4044 to volunteer.

The City of Logan’s WV Make It Shine activities are part of a larger national effort, Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup, that is expected to involved close to 3 million people. Activities will include beautifying parks and recreations areas, cleaning sea shores and waterways, handling recycling collections, picking up litter and removing scrap tires, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and litter free events.

The City of Logan’s 2010 Make It Shine Campaign produced phenomenal results with very little volunteer help. The City of Logan employees were the primary workers in the event, cleaning up tons of litter from around the area. The workers also painted rusted poles, ticket boxes, curbs and streets. They also cleared the Hinchman Lot and various debris from around the city. The city hopes to have a larger turnout for the Clean Up this year so that more can be accomplished.

For your group to be involved, please contact Logan City Hall to sign up. (304) 752-4044. The clean up will begin at 10 a.m. on April 11th and continue throughout the week.
