The Logan Middle School baseball team used the long ball to crush Ripley, 14-5, in Mid-Valley Conference action last week at Ripley.

Chase Preston and Z. Minnick each hit home runs for the Timberwolves.

Minnick also accomplished a rare feat in baseball as he hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and homer to go along with his four RBI and three runs scored.

Preston was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, including his first ever middle school homer.

Ryan Miller also picked up three hits for the T-Wolves.

Connor Akers had a hit and three RBI.

Jacob Browning added a hit and two RBI.

Preston was Logan’s starting and winning pitcher. He went four innings, scattering five runs (three earned) with seven strikeouts.

Minnick came in and pitched two innings for LMS, fanning three. Chase Burnette then closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

Elements of Ripley’s team were made up of last year’s West Virginia Little League state championship squad.

“I think our boys used that as fuel,” LMS coach Alex Perry said.

Logan returns home to play Hurricane on Tuesday at Timmy Marcum’s Field of Dreams at Whitman.

LMS was coming off last week’s 12-9 win over county rival Man.
