Preceding her in death were her parents, Samuel and Mary Ann Mynes; two husbands, Elliott Pauley and Willis Sumler; her oldest son, Samuel Sumler and his wife, Barbara Jean; her youngest daughter, Mary Ann Pauley; five brothers, Otis and his wife Claira, Roy and his wife, Lizza, Robert “Bob”, Elwood and his wife, Vina, and Edward and his wife, Josephine, and one sister, Orpha White and her husband, Ish.
Our dear one is now free from pain and heartaches, safe in the arms of her Lord. Mom was a wonderful mother who worked hard and cared for her family; raising six children almost entirely on her own. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her which was evidenced by the picture gallery on her walls. She loved gospel music, red roses, raising a garden, preserving the vegetables and quilting. Mom’s cabbage rolls, “shuck beans,” apple pies and sugar cookies were always a special treat during the holidays and special occasions.
During the time spent with her daughter in Perry, Lillian had become friends with so many people through the Calvary Baptist Church and our wonderful Pastor Roger Dunn and his wife, Kathy. She was lovingly known as “Granny.”
Lillian leaves behind two sons, Bobby Sumler of Arlington, Va., and Larry Pauley of Jeffrey; two daughters, Peggy (Edwin) Chase of Perry, and Evelyn Kay (Douglas) Clark of Foster; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Craft, Drema Schilmoeller, Scott Sumler, Eddie Glenn Chase, Larry Joe, Melanie, Summer, Christopher and Tess Pauley, Douglas Clark II and Mark Clark, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Ball Chapel in Jeffery with Pastor Charles Gillispie officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Madison.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Handley Funeral Home.
