Lady Cats wrap up 3A section crown

It was a sweep at South Charleston on Friday night as the Logan High School softball team breezed to the Class AAA Region 3 Section 3 title with a pair of easy wins over George Washington.

No. 4-ranked Logan won 11-0 in the first game and then took the second game, 10-2.

Both games were halted in the fifth inning due to the 8-run mercy rule.

The Lady Cats (22-2), winners of 14 straight games, are scheduled to play next Thursday in the Class AAA regional semifinals at Riverside. The Warriors won their sectional with 8-1 and 18-2 wins over Capital.

In Logan’s first game on Friday, Morgan Aguirre went 3-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate and struck out seven batters on the mound to lead the Lady Cats to victory.

Antonia Hill had a double and drove in three runs for the Lady Cats.

Taylor Norman added a double and an RBI, while Faydra Martin also had one run batted in.

Rachel Ward went 2-for-3 for George Washington.

Logan plated 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning and added another in the fourth. The Lady Cats outhit GW 6-4.

In the second game, Norman was 2-for-4 with a double, five RBI and a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth inning which ended the game for Logan.

Katie Chryssofos had a double and two RBIs, while Jessica Bias was 3-for-4 with a double. Aguirre was 2-for-3 for Logan.

Sommer Neace pitched the win for the Lady Cats as she struck out 10 and scattered five hits.

Danielle Kowalkowski had an RBI for GW.

Logan outhit the Patriots 10-5.

LHS beat Riverside 4-1 in a meeting earlier in the season at the Chapmanville tourney.
