Five Logan High School tennis athletes are ready for the Big Dance – Thursday’s state tennis tournament at the Watt Powell Courts in Kanawha City.

Logan No. 1 girls’ seed, freshman Lauren Chambers, who won Region 3 last Thursday, will be playing for a state title starting off against Chamee Rassekh from University High School at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning. Chambers will also be playing in the No. 1 doubles with her partner, Rebecca Canterbury, a junior. The pair will square off against Wheeling Park later on Thursday afternoon.

On the boys’ side, Logan No. 1 singles player Zack Hatfield, a sophomore, will be making his second state tournament appearance. He is set to square off against Pranav Jain from Fairmont Senior in singles around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Hatfield and junior doubles partner Tyler Howerton will face a duo from Fairmont Senior later in the afternoon.

Logan No. 3 seed Keith Williamson is scheduled to play on Thursday morning against Washington High School’s Blake Pendell.

The Logan High School boys’ tennis team won the Class AA state title back in 2003 and the girls were the runner-ups.

The only other area team represented is Scott High School, who has Tyler Compton in the No. 1 singles.
