The new Logan City Council approved the hiring of Everett Maynard to become it's latest police officer.
Logan Police Chief E. K. Harper said that Maynard is currently on duty with the National Guard for two more weeks but after that he will join the department and fill the spot left by former longtime police officer Dave Adkins.
"Our other new guy Jacob is back at work and this would bring us back up to full strength again," Chief Harper told the new city council members on May 10. Harper said he was very impressed by Maynard's credentials.
"He pulled two tours of duty in Iraq and he was full time Army," Harper explained.
Harper had some more good news for the city council.
"Our department got a JAG Grant to get new guns and equipment," Chief Harper said. This will all be paid for by the grant."
Mayor Nolletti thanked Chief Harper, Dave White, and Amber Miller -Viars for their work on the grant over the course of the past year.
Fire Chief Scotty Beckett also had some good grant news. Beckett said the Logan Fire Department got an $8,000 Health and Safety Grant thanks to Congressman Nick Rahall and that the fire and police departments would share a $21,000 grant from the Governor's office.
"Thanks Earl Ray," Beckett said.
According to Chief Harper's monthly report to the council, the Logan P.D. handled 27 complaints in the month of April making 19 arrests. It investigated 10 accidents and issued 11 traffic citations. Seven citations were paid in full and seven received partial payments. The city took in $40 in red ticket money and $379 in yellow ticket money.
