Two stations in Harts — The Marathon Fast Chek Station and the Little General Exxon — lowered the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline to $3.59 on Sunday.
An employee at the Little General station said the Little General store lowered its price after the Marathon station's price was dropped. The sudden and steep decrease in price caused the Little General to run out of gas on Sunday night.
But, by Monday, both stations were still selling gas at $3.59 a gallon.
Elsewhere, in Chapmanville, gas fell to $3.79 a gallon at the Little General Exxon on Airport Road on Monday evening. Gas in other areas of Logan County fell to $3.94 at several stations.
In Mingo County, gasoline was still priced at over $4 a gallon at some stations. In Danville, a gallon of regular unleaded gas was still at $3.99 at the Little General Store beside U.S. Route 119, and at the Hatfield-McCoy Mart, just a few miles down the road.
In Charleston, on Monday, gas was priced at $3.99 a gallon.
In Huntington on Saturday, gas was priced at $3.89 a gallon at several stations.
Gasoline prices escalated recently to $4.29 a gallon at most stations in southern West Virginia. as tensions have eased in the Middle East, oil prices have fallen and, in turn, gas prices have decreased.
