Man High School Class of 2011 Honor Graduates

MAN — Man High School will have graduation ceremonies Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. Leading the class of 2011 will be five valedictorians, one salutatorian and one historian.

Valedictorians:

• Jeremy Chris Tipton

Jeremy Chris Tipton is the son of Chris and Kim Tipton of Kistler. His student activities included working on the class float, prom, Student Council, Beta Club, Honor Society, football, basketball, tennis, weightlifting, Model UN, Math Field Day, FCA and Academic Challenge. His awards include Principal’s Award, Top Ten Honor Graduate Award, WSAZ Best of the Class, Civics, Psychology, Anatomy, U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete, U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award and National Financial Capability Challenge. He has served as president of the freshman and sophomore class and Honor Society, and vice president of the Beta Club and the junior class. His community activities include PIECES, Relay for Life, WE CAN volunteer and Man Little League T-Ball coach and is a member of the Becco United Baptist Church. His scholarships include Charles and Myrtle McCane, A. Mitchell Perry, Promise and Mountain State University. His future plans are to attend Mountain State University to study pre-law/legal.

• Zachery E. Asbury

Zachery E. Asbury of Davin is the son of Matthew Asbury and Lorrie Vance. His student activities includes float, prom, attendance, football, Academic Games, Math Field Day, Model United Nations, Student Council, Honor Society and Beta Club. His scholarships include Promise, William and Nancy Wagner, Charles and Myrtle McCane Memorial Scholarship, Logan County Credit Union, Mountain State University Valedictorian, West Virginia University Mountaineer Scholarship and WVU Valedictorian Scholarship. His awards include MHS Principal Award, MHS Valedictorian Award, WSAZ Best of the Class, Outstanding Senior 2011, National Academic Games, USSYP finalist, Beta scholarship semi-finalist, and National Academic Games Team Champion World Events 2011. He has served as senior class president, and vice president of the Honor Society and Student Council. His community activities include community clean up, canned food drive and attending church. His future plans is to attend West Virginia University to study pre-med.

• Tia Shah Gent

Tia Shah Gent is the daughter of Neal and Katrina Gent of Davin. Her student activities include working on the float, attendance, Student Council, Rachel’s Challenge, Beta Club, Honor Society, prom, Prayer Club, softball, basketball and cheerleading. Her scholarships include Promise, CEDAR, Rent-A-Center, Man High School LSIC, Presidential Scholarship, Beaver Coal Company, Charles and Myrtle McCane, Logan County School Personnel, Arch Coal and Mountain State. Her awards include Psychology, Chorus, AP English, Wendy’s Heisman, WSAZ Best of the Class, Top Ten Honor Graduate Award and chemistry. She has served as class secretary, Honor Society treasurer, Beta Club historian and Rachel’s Challenge secretary. Her community activities include Victory Over Hunger, Breast Cancer Walk, Toys for Tots, Blood drives and flood relief. Her future plans is to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to pursue a degree in nursing.

• Holli Rachele Sansom

Holli Rachele Sansom is the daughter of Richie and Sherry Sansom of Accoville. Her student activities include float committee, prom committee, secretary of the Beta Club and Honor Society. Her awards include English 101/102 and Health. She attends the Becco United Baptist Church. Her scholarships include Promise and the Roger M. McGrew Scholarship. Her future plans is to attend Mountain State University to become a physician’s assistant.

• Alison Welty

Alison Welty is the daughter of Robin Welty of Man. Her awards include Probability and Statistics, AP Government, English 101/102 and Accounting. She attends Big Spring Missionary Baptist Church youth group. Her scholarships include Promise and WVU Rhododendron. Her future plans is to attend WVU to pursue a degree in elementary education.

Salutatorian

• Zackery Allen Underwood

Zackery Allen Underwood is the son of Shannon and Nancy Underwood of Man. His student activities include float, Academic Challenge, Model UN and Math Field Day. His awards include AP Calculus 12, Physics 12, Architecture 12, first team All State 2010 and second team All State 2011. His community activities include church, football and weightlifting. His scholarships include Promise, Appalachian Leadership, Education Foundation, Alpha Natural Resources, and the Homer Hickman Scholarship. His future plans is to attend Marshall University to study civil engineering.

Historian

• Morgan Paige McCoy

Morgan Paige McCoy is the daughter of Steve and Lori McCoy of Bruno. Her student activities include the float committee, prom committee, attendance committee, cheerleading captain, Beta Club, Honor Society, Yearbook staff, Student Council and homecoming court. She has served as class treasurer and Honor Society secretary. Her awards include History 11, English 11 and English 12She attends the Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church. Her scholarships include Promise, Cliffs Natural Resources, Srachai Scholarship, Coal Vendors and A. Michael Perry Scholarship. Her future plans is to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to pursue a degree in nursing.
