On Thursday evening, Logan County 911 was called with a report of a body being found at Hatcher's Hollow in the Switzer area.
Michael Richards was found along Route 44 bludgeoned to death.
West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Hensley arrested James Whitt of Chapmanville on charges connected to the murder of Richards.
Whitt is currently incarcerated in the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden without bond.
Reports said the WVSP searched Richards' home for clues and found what they believe is the murder weapon in the Guyandotte River and it has been sent away for testing.
Trooper J.R. Powers said Monday that Richards was killed by a blow to the head.
The WVSP investigation is ongoing.
There has been speculation that the homicide was drug-related and that the two men knew each other.
No additional details were available.
