He’s expected to play baseball and possibly football, too, for the Golden Eagles.
Easterling, a just-graduated senior at CRHS, helped lead the Tigers to a 32-3 season and Class AA state championship last week.
Easterling, a three-sport star, had a fine season with a .372 average, seven home runs and 34 RBI before the sectional tourney. In the sectionals, Easterling ripped a grand slam homer to lead the Tigers past Scott 12-2 at Chapmanville’s Ted Ellis Field, clinching the school’s third straight crown.
In the state tourney, Easterling ripped a double in the Tigers’ 10-2 semifinal win over Braxton County last Friday in Charleston.
The Tigers went on to defeat Wyoming East 10-2 in the Class AA state championship game.
Easterling was also a standout football and basketball player at Chapmanville.
He quarterbacked the Tigers to three straight playoff appearances, including last year when the Tigers advanced to the state quarterfinals after a first-round win at Pikeview.
On the basketball floor, Easterling was a key member of Coach Harry Kirk’s team and helped lead Chapmanville to a 13-10 season.
In an extreme rarity, Easterling will be teammates on the UC baseball team with his uncle, former Logan High School star Ross Easterling, who is a rising junior.
The Golden Eagles were 18-27 this season.
The elder Easterling hit .264 with 16 RBI, five doubles and a triple.
Also on the UC roster is former Logan player Corey Lakatos, a Golden Eagle pitcher, who made nine appearances had didn’t allow a single earned run.
