CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. Lester F. ‘Dick” Lucas, 75, of Chapmanville, passed away and went home to be with his savior Friday, July 1, 2011, from Trinity Healthcare at Henlawson.

Born November 12, 1935, at Banco, he was a son of the late Ray and Leila Darby Lucas. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Dorthy Frye Lucas; his only child, a son, Eddie Lucas,; one brother, Sidney E. Lucas; grandparents, J.V. and Lydia Barker Lucas and Wilson and Opal Kirk Derby, and several aunts and uncles.

Mr. Lucas had been a farmer for most of his life. Having served in the U.S. Navy, he worked in Chicago, Ill., and Cleveland, Ohio, before coming home to Chapmanville in 1982 to be near and help with his aging father.

Survivors include his sisters, Virginia (Joe) Drawl of Mentor, Ohio, Margaret (Gordon) Peck of Honaker, Va., and Nellie Collins of Cleveland; brothers, James of Chapmanville and Winford of Cumberland, Ohio; three nieces, Leila Drawl of Mentor, Dawanda King of Medina, Ohio, and Monia Lucas of Chicago; nephews, Sidney Lucas Jr., Paul Lucas, Robert Lucas and Winford Lucas, all of Chicago, John Shumar and James Lucas Jr., both of Cleveland, James Shumar of Cumberland, and William “Billy” Lucas of Mentor, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 3, at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. James Duty officiating. Burial will be in the Lucas cemetery on Trace Fork of Big Creek.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
