The first Chief Logan Hunting and Fishing Expo opens this Saturday and is already generating excitement in the coalfield region.

The Hunting and Fishing Expo is set for July 16 and 17 at the Chief Logan Lodge and Conference Center which is just off U.S. Route 119, near the Crawley Creek exit.

There will be numerous hunting and fishing vendors and some of the biggest names in the field will be doing presentations throughout the weekend-long event.

Scheduled for the expo will be seminars by “World’s Most Famous Bowhunter” Chuck Adams, coyote calling demonstrations by Tom Bechdel, bird dog demonstrations, an archery tournament, a youth challenge and more, according to Debrina Williams of the Hatfield-McCoy Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Williams said the response to the first-ever hunting and fishing expo has been great in the weeks leading up to the show.

"We've already received great response to the show and we expect a large crowd both days," Williams said. "We're very excited to have top-name presenters coming to our region, as well as many great vendors and activities."

Williams said there will be something for everyone at the Chief Logan Hunting and Fishing Expo.

"We've heard from kids and families who are excited to take part in the youth challenge, the fishing pond and speaking with the presenters. I've never seen so many kids excited -- both boys and girls."

The expo kicks off on July 16 at 8 a.m. and runs until the next day at 5 p.m. The opening ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Several hunting and fishing and outdoors groups, vendors and attractions will be set up at the expo inside and out of the Chief Logan Lodge and Conference Center. There will be lots of activities.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Hatfield-McCoy CVB.

Set for the expo will be a 3D archery shoot located at the archery range; an air rifle public shooting with Rick McAllister; an outdoor youth challenge; Smokey Bear presented by the West Virginia Division of Forestry; a bird dog demonstration with Frank Jezioro; Hawg Trough: How to Use Lures and Casting demonstrations; outdoor fishing tactics by Bruce Ingram; a cooking demonstration from Huntington's Kitchen: Fresh Market Project; turkey calling and hunting seminar by Chris Walls; a Hawg Trough Aquarium and Fishing demonstration; a presentation by Chuck Adams; a presentation by Jeremy Starks, who is a world-ranked professional angler; regional and national authors signing books; a coyote calling seminar with Tom Bechdel; ATV safety with Jeremy Farley of the West Virginia University Extension Office; ASAT Camo with Bruce Wimmer; prize drawings for the youth challenge and fishing in the trout pond for the youth and the hunting simulator.

"We're excited to bring this show to the region," Williams said.
