VERDUNVILLE, W.Va. — After a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, our beloved “Susie” departed this Monday, July 25, 2011 at the home of her “auntie” Gay Carter. She was 51 years old.

Born June 15, 1961, in Logan, she is the daughter and only child of Sherlene Adkins Olson. During her illness, our “Little Susie” never gave up, never lost hope and her quick humor was ever present.

Susie was of the Baptist faith and was baptized on July 22, 2011. She was a fuel specialist for the U.S. Marine Corp for 7 years, serving one year in Japan. She was last employed with Lowe’s in Logan.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Dwight “Tykie” Legg; her stepfather, Robert Olson; her maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Ellen Adkins, and her mother-in-law, Angeline Legg.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her three children, Kara Legg of Westminster, Md., and Annie and Jacob Legg of Verdunville, and her faithful companion, her dog, “Gussy”; her aunts and uncles, Franklin “Dee” and Sherry Adkins of Blanchard, Okla., Thomas and Mary Iris Adkins of Dingess, Iva Stallard and Dewey Dillon of Richmond, Ky., Willis and Gay Carter of Verdunville, and Sherry Y. Marcum and Mary Ann Bevins of Mountain Home, Ark.; many other extended family members and host of many, many friends. Additionally, she is survived by her “special” family, Lou and Jan “Mommy Susie” Rodriguez and their two daughters, Suzanna Caperton and Lela Bakos; two brothers-in-law, Kenny Legg of Verdunville and Melvin Legg of California and two sisters-in-law, Sara Legg of Verdunville and Francis of California.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carson Fannin, Rev. Nick Adams and Rev. Bill Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery at Mud Fork with Military Graveside Rites.

Pallbearers will be Jason Adkins, Jammie Adkins, Aaron Adkins, Luke Marcum, Scott Adkins and Brent Osborne.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Carter, David Jeffers, Kenny Legg, Joe Legg and Mose Vance.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.

Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com
