Jeff Williamson, a 2005 LHS grad and member of the ‘05 Class AA state championship team, has recently been named as a Rio Grande assistant coach.
Last season, the NAIA Red Storm were just 5-26 overall in the tough Mid-South Conference. League member Pikeville College (Ky.) ended up going to Oklahoma and bringing home the NAIA National Championship.
“My role at Rio Grande will be graduate assistant men’s basketball coach and head junior varsity coach. I’ll be in charge of game film exchange and certain aspects of scouting and recruiting,” Williamson said. “Coach French is currently building a program that wants good players, but more importantly, Rio Grande is looking for good people. I believe if our program is surrounded by good people success will follow. This year we’re looking to make a jump to be in the discussion for the Mid-South Conference Championship.”
As a player, Williamson transferred to Logan from Scott High School. He was one of the many Scott-to-Logan players in the 2000s, which included brothers Lou and Zach Green, Brian Lane and Brett Campbell.
“My most memorable moment with basketball is winning the state title in 2005 for Logan. I took a lot of heat for transferring from Scott to Logan, but in the end everything worked out the way it was supposed to,” Williamson said.
