Man staged a late rally and had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but had two shots come up short as the Lady Cubs avenged a 67-39 defeat back on Dec. 7 in the opening game of the Mollette/Murphy Invitational Tournament at Gilbert High School.
Iaeger extended a two-point halftime lead to 14 with a 21-9 third quarter run for a 41-27 lead.
Man outscored Iaeger 18-6 in the final quarter, but couldn’t overcome foul trouble as the Lady Cubs escaped with the two-point victory.
Man was whistled for 30 fouls in the contest sending Iaeger to the foul line for 37 attempts.
The Lady Cubs would only connect on 13 tries keeping the Lady Hillbillies in the contest.
Sophomore center Courtney Browning and freshmen guards Marlena Frye and Tabby Johnston fouled out for Man as they dropped to 2-3 with the defeat.
Malorie Keffer led Man with a game-high 22 points as she was the only player to reach double figures for Man. Browning just missed double figures with eight points while Frye and Paige Stacy finished with seven points. Johnston scored two points and senior guard Kristi McCoy was held scoreless after two straight games in double figures.
Terri McCoy led Iaeger with 15 points. She was joined in double figures by Laura Auville with 13 and Kayla Muncy with 10. Ashley Gibson finished with seven and Sarah Addair score three for the Lady Cubs who improved to 2-1 with the victory. Both teams hit 17 field goals, but Iaeger hit the only 3-point of the contest and was 13-of-37 from the free-throw line while Man was 12-of-23.
Man will return to action Wednesday evening on the road at county rival Chapmanville.
