Local police make more drug arrests

Area law enforcement officers have been continuously busy this month with a variety of arrests including those for drugs.

Steven Craig Evans, 33, of Mallory, was arrested in Logan County by Tpr. D.W. Simmons, J.C. Kirk and P.A. Jones of the West Virginia State Police for possession of a controlled substance on Jan. 22. According to law enforcement reports, the officers received an anonymous tip about possible drug activity at Evan's home in the Mineral City area of Logan County. Upon arrival, the officers reportedly saw five syringes in plain view containing what was believed to be drug residue. "The defendant stated it was morphine residue," the report states. The officers recovered a crack stem with crack cocaine residue in the kitchen as well, the report states. Evans was booked at the regional jail at 12:07 a.m.

Jamie Paul Ward, 29, of Logan, was arrested by Tpr. Simmons of the WVSP for possession of a controlled substance on Jan. 22.

The report states that Ward was at the residence of another individual where police were investigating a drug tip.

Upon arrival, Tpr. Simmons saw Ward attempt to enter a rear bedroom, and he stopped him and conducted a search for weapons when he "did detect what appeared to be a type of prescription pill in the defendant's pocket," the report states.

Tpr. Simmons removed it and found a lortab 5 which was broken in half, "and the defendant did not have a valid prescription" for the drug. The officer also recovered a crack stem used for smoking crack which reportedly contained crack residue. Ward was booked at the regional jail at 12:07 a.m.

Barbara Gore, 38, of Lake, was arrested in Logan County by members of the US 119 Drug Task Force and the West Virginia State Police for possession with intent to deliver, assault and battery on Jan. 17.

According to law enforcement reports Gore was allegedly "found in possession of a large amount of hydrocodone and approximately 1/2 ounce of marijuana. The accused did not have a valid prescription for the hydrocodone." She was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at 6:50 p.m.

Marvin Brown, 51, of Amherstdale, was arrested in Logan County by officers on the US 119 Task Force and the WVSP for conspiracy, assault and battery on Jan. 17.

According to law enforcement reports, after gaining consent to search the residence for controlled substances, the officers reportedly found digital scales and money." Brown was taken into custody and was booked at the regional jail at 6:50 p.m.
