PIECES chairman Charlie Brown told the group that presentations for grants had been made in Charleston and that he felt the group had a good shot at getting funding.
Brown said that while prevention will be PIECES main goal, an effort to raise public awareness, and to try and get a treatment program for women in Logan County will also be major projects.
For some time the FUTURES rehab center has been operating in Logan to assist males with drug abuse problems. However, a -shortage of programs like FUTURES in general and a total lack of such programs for women only has been discussed since the last drug summit.
John Mays said that he attended a recent meeting where he was told there was no funding for treatment centers for women, and recommended that members write letters to DHHR and the legislature requesting them to find funding for such a program.
"It is desperately needed," Mays said.
Brown said that at the recent grant hearings another topic came up
