Editor,

Every time I drive route 10 from Man to Logan, it amazes me that all the money spent on route 10 at the Logan end and the Man end of the new road could have taken the road much farther than it currently is if the money had been spent on one end or the other. In addition to the (re-built) bridge over the town of Man, we've got a huge new bridge spanning the CSX tracks and the river that will continue to sit idle for who knows how long. Maybe we can turn it into a mile long flower planter, or a huge outdoor flea market. I also wonder why the bridge over the town of Man had to be re-built while a state DOH inspector was supposed to be overseeing the construction of that bridge. What was he doing all day while they did such shoddy work? Now the bridge has been resurfaced. I drove over it the other day and almost got sea-sick it had so many waves in it.

I've heard people say the citizens of Triadelphia are greedy asking for a four lane highway. In fact, all we ever wanted was a good two lane road to Logan that didn't put your family's lives at risk when you traveled it. The federal government, however, decided that in order to get the necessary funding, we had to have a four lane highway. Now, we have no funding to finish the road.

Now, I hear President Bush wants to give Iraq one billion dollars for a jobs program. How about that? One Billion Dollars. If we have no money to build American taxpayers a badly needed road, how can they find one billion dollars to give away? I also hear that the president wants more money for reconstruction in Iraq. If I'm not mistaken, the American taxpayers tried to build a large hospital in Iraq, but it kept being damaged to the point it might have to be abandoned. Repairs to infrastructure in Iraq such as water, sewage, and power plants have also been sabotaged.

I also heard on the evening news that money to pay the interest on our national debt was being borrowed from China. It seems all the American manufacturing companies have left the country for China, taking our jobs, then we have to borrow money from China to pay for the money we give away foolishly to foreign countries who hate us. It reminds me of the stupidity that went on during the Vietnam War, trying to "win their hearts and minds with American dollars". I wish they would try to win our hearts and minds with some of our own tax dollars.

A few months ago, I read somewhere that the United States still gives foreign aid in one form or another to Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and of course, North Korea. Yes, it seems stupid to me too. "Stupid is as stupid does" Where did I hear that?

I heard John Edwards mention on the news that one of his main candidacy points was universal health care for all Americans. Some opponents say it won't work. Canada and Great Britain have made it work for years. I think Edwards might have a good point if he doesn't come up with some stupid "Health Savings Plan or Health Savings Tax Break scheme". They need to take insurance companies out of the equation, stop giving money away overseas to countries that hate us, and control health care costs. An aspirin in the hospital costs so much you'd think NASA was in charge.

We have a street in the Town of Man that has been blocked off for four to six months. We have a bridge that's been closed for I guess, three to four years or more. We have a hospital that sits idle while Triadelphia area citizens have to risk their lives getting to Logan for emergencies, driving on a road that should have been condemned years ago. It seems funny to me that money can be found for a stadium in Charleston for a Semi-Pro baseball team that employs part-time-seasonal workers, but no money can be found to provide health care and jobs for a badly needed hospital, or a badly needed bridge in the Town of Man.

When several buildings burned in the Town of Man, that back-street bridge would really have come in handy.
