BLUEFIELD - Class AA No. 3 Logan saw its nine-game winning streak come to a halt at the hands of No. 2 Bluefield 81-57 Saturday night at Bluefield State College.

Jonathan Bevins had a career 32 points to lead Logan, who wrapped up the Cardinal Conference with a victory on the road at Poca Friday night.

Saturday's game was a rematch of the classic Jan. 6 battle that saw the Wildcats defeat the Beavers 63-62, handing the Beavers their first loss of the season. This time, however, Bluefield jumped on the Wildcats from the opening tip and didn't let up as the Beavers led 17-9 after one quarter and extended that lead to 33-23 at the break.

Bevins did his best to keep the Wildcats within striking distance, but Dexter Moore hit two 3's in the second quarter to spark Bluefield.

Bluefield outscored Logan 25-9 in the third quarter, as the Beavers stepped up the defensive effort and increased the lead to as many as 28 points and led 58-32 after three quarters.

Logan held Bluefield to three field goals in the fourth quarter, but the Beavers knocked down 17-of-19 attempts from the freethrow line to avenge an earlier defeat and the Wildcats their first loss since Jan. 22, when the Westside Renegades defeated the Wildcats 65-46 at the Willie Akers Arena.

Moore and Ansel Ponder led four Bluefield players in double figures with 18 points. Kyle Hammond had 15 and Shaun Brooks came off the bench to score 11. Chance Cottrell scored eight, Justin Harris had five while Tre Baker, Turquan Casey, and Marcus Patterson scored two points each for the Beavers, who improve to 163 with the win.

Bevins led Logan with 32 points and was the only Wildcat to reach double figures. Caleb Luther just missed double figures with eight points. Brett Sorrell had five points while Chay Gregory, Jacob Long, and Brantz O'Briant finished with three points each. Billy Tomblin scored two points to round out the scoring for Logan, who dropped to 16-5 with the defeat.

Logan will return to action Tuesday night at home against Herbert Hoover. The Wildcats defeated the Huskies 61-60 at Falling Rock back on Jan. 23. It will be Logan's final game of the regular season before facing the Tolsia-Wayne winner in the Class AA Region VI Section II tournament at the Williamson Memorial Fieldhouse.
