Kiwanis Co-President Jim Hagood told club members that volunteers will be needed for the annual fundraiser and tickets are on sale now for $5 adults and $3 children. Hagood and club treasurer Darren Akers told Kiwanians to get ready to go door to door and business to business and gather donations for the upcoming Silent Auction, which is a traditional part of the Pancake Day fun.
Hagood said volunteers for the club will be needed to set up equipment, sell tickets at the door and cook up the best tasting pancakes in town on Pancake Day.
The club has been fortunate in recent weeks with new members and one, Diane Barnett, was sworn in on Feb. 8 as the club's newest member. Barnett is no stranger to the local business scene, as she and husband Ronnie operate the FountainPlace Cinema 8 at the mall in Logan.
Hagood swore Barnett in, and pointed out how important inducting new members are to any civic organization. Barnett was brought into the club by Debrina Williams of the Logan Chamber of Commerce and Bud McNeal.
Barnett was presented with her club hat, pin, plaque to be hung in her place of business (so the public can identify a member as a Kiwanian) and the traditional apron which will be signed by other Kiwanians as a way for each new member to get to know club stalwarts. Barnett was also given literature about Kiwanis history and goals.
"We welcome you into the club," Hagood said.
