Methadone clinics

Editor,

I’m writing this letter because I’m tired of hearing politicians and others sing praises to the methadone clinics. Can somebody please explain to me how the methadone clinics help drug addicts? The “meth” clinics give the people that are already addicted to drugs another drug. I know a lot of people in Logan County use the methadone clinic as another way to get high.

I’m sure that when the idea of methadone clinics was first conceived it was meant as a way to help people that are addicted to drugs but it’s not helping. The meth clinics need to be shut down.

Doctors need to stop writing so many pain pills to anybody who goes to their office. I don’t know the exact statistics of the drug problem in Logan County but I’ve watched as it continues to get worse. So many people here in Logan are hooked on prescription pain pills. It’s a sad situation but if the doctors and politicians won’t make any effort to do something about this epidemic of drug addiction there probably won’t be much improvement.

I applaud the police and the US 119 Drug Task force for their efforts to arrest people caught with dealing and/or using drugs. Keep on making those drug busts and arrests. I only hope that one day things will change and the drug problem will become less.

I’m not judging the people who have a drug problem. They need help, but giving them another drug doesn’t help them. They need a real solution.
